Nikki Makes a Wrong Turn

This was almost too easy, Nikki thought. She had applied for and gotten a new job. Even better, Ernie was going to pay her under the table so she wouldn't have to loose her unemployment benefits. The pay wasn't much, but working would beat sitting her tired ass at home everyday. She had even made her first pick up and delivery,  Xrays needed by a dentist for an emergency root canal. She was finally getting the hang of the five speed and only dumped the clutch once. You wouldn't have to remind her to leave the heels at home for her next day of driving. The Cavalier was good at gas mileage and would help Nikki squeeze every nickel from her new gig.  Nikki felt like celebrating, even though she knew many of her bad decisions were made in search of a good time. She would make a quick stop at the Preview lounge and limit herself to one beer, go home and get ready for work the next day.

After four beers, two jack and cokes and a Long Island Iced Tea sent over by an secret admirer, Nikki was feeling good. She had run into old friends from her last job, and couldn't leave without talking about how things used to be. Also a spread of food had been put out, which almost never happened these days, which made it twice as easy to stay. Later they got that electric slide line going and Nikki was a star twirling to the beat. Everything was cool except she kept getting nagged by something the she had heard earlier that week. "Faith without works is dead!" She wasn't sure what this meant since she planned on going to work the next day. She would think about it later, right now she was in a groove.

That's the way it is, ain't it
There's a rhythm deep inside of you
And you must get reacquainted (ooh)
When was the last time you danced?
When was the last time you danced?
Well come rock with me baby
Dance with me darlin'
Step with me sweetheart
The world is watching

She hadn't had this good of a time in years. It was getting late but not that late. One more drink, a few more twirls and she would be out, but first she needed to make a visit to the girls room which was located downstairs. Maybe she would get a little closer to the guy who had sent her that drink earlier. It could only get better, right! She never got that last drink, it was two steps down, then "I'll tumble for you!"
